Cleaning

What to look out for

  • Dust collected on the top edges of books. This can both encourage mould and discolour the pages
  • Dirt permeating into the pages, especially in album type bindings
  • Leather that has become dry and powdery
  • Discolouration and/or staining on the outer covers

What can be done

Keeping the book tightly closed, vacuum or brush clean the edges clean.

Surface clean the pages with an approved dressing to supplement the natural oils in the leather skin. Clean covers by wiping or washing depending upon the type of material used.
